our valley within the valley

Accounting for just 1% of Napa Valley’s vineyard acreage, the extraordinary terroir of Stags Leap District inspired our founders to establish Odette in 2011. Nestled alongside the Vaca Mountains, Stags Leap District is often referred to as a “valley within a valley,” because of the hillsides that surround and protect it. Naturally cooler than its neighbors, dramatic temperature shifts, alluvial fans, and mountains influence each vine—yielding wines beloved for their prismatic complexity and delicate, linear structures.

Odette’s unique location in southeastern Napa Valley—where cool San Pablo Bay breezes and fog mingle daily—allows us to cultivate all five Bordeaux varieties on our estate: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Our 45-acre site’s combination of warm days and cool nights allows the grapes to ripen slowly, giving our wines their refreshing acidity and signature finesse.

Stags Leap Loams:
The Essence of Our Wines

The Odette Estate Vineyard cascades atop a diverse array of soils. Together, their nuances form the multilayered harmonies within each of our wines.

perkins gravelly loam

Deep pockets of Perkins Gravelly Loam, a fine volcanic soil, provide exceptional drainage.

bale clay loam

Fertile deposits of Bale Clay Loam, which combine sediment from the Napa River and ancient earth from the Vaca Mountains, provide a deep well of mineral resources.

clear lake loam

Clear Lake Loam, a soil made up of fine sandstone and shale, provides depth and nuance to the grapes grown in low-lying areas.

boomer gravelly loam

Boomer Gravelly Loam soils from a prehistoric landslide provide exceptional structure to grapes from steep slopes.
